- hyaluronic acid - creates a hydrophilic film on the surface of the skin. The acid itself does not penetrate the epidermis due to too large a molecule, but creates a layer of hydrogen-oxygen connections that attract water molecules from the dermis. Water is directed from the inside to the stratum corneum and hydrates the epidermis. A well-hydrated stratum corneum becomes more absorbent to active substances.
